New multi-purpose indoor sport and recreation facility within a grade II listed building
Our role
- We have been providing built heritage advice on the refurbishment and redevelopment of this grade II listed former public baths complex since 2015.
- Recently, we have assisted in Listed Building Consent (LBC) applications for office fit out works, the installation of temporary artists' studios, as well as the new multi-purpose indoor sport and recreation facility within the historic bathhouse.
- Our in-depth knowledge of the history and significance of the building helped shape the proposals to ensure that an appreciation of the historic, highly significant space of the bathhouse, was retained.
Results
- The LBC for the multi-purpose indoor sport and recreation facility was granted consent and has since been installed.
The proposals involve the installation of a sunken football pitch at the base of the former swimming pool and a skatepark at ground level. - The proposals will bring the bathhouse back into community use for a new generation who will be able to appreciate the architectural interest of this historic space.
- The proposals also refurbish the historic bathhouse space, safeguarding it for the future.
